Olympus Infinity Stylus ZOOM 140
Introduced in 1998 the Olympus Infinity Stylus ZOOM 140 was also sold as the mju ZOOM 140.
It was sold as an ultra-compact, high-performance, high-resolution and lots more marketing speak to tell the buyer this is the camera they need. At 140 mm this was the longest zoom yet for the Stylus/mju series. Fully extended it protrudes over 3 inches (8 cm) from the body and is rather slow to extend. There are a full six flash functions on the ZOOM 140. 1) Auto is the default that comes on with the camera, 2) Red Eye, 3) Off, 4) On, forced flash, 5) Night, and 6) Night- Red Eye. My wish is always that the camera would remember the last selection and power up in that mode. But as with most consumer point and shoots it powers up in the auto mode.
My Take:
The Stylus/mju series are nice point and shoots. They are relatively small and the rounded styling makes them easy to carry. Not tiny but good as that extra camera in a bag or a coat pocket. The lens is protected when not on so there is less chance of damage from riding in a bag or pocket. The time it takes to turn on and extend the lens is a bit long and loud so don’t expect to deploy it too quickly for that stealth shot. They claim to be “All Weather”, not sure how water resistant they are… yet.
