Canon Model L-2

March 20, 2017 by Paul Lovell

The Canon Model L-2 was introduced in late 1956 and produced through 1957. After the Canon VT, the L-2 was a more approachable rangefinder. It incorporates a thumb rewind (VT was a trigger wind in the base). The L-2 does drop to a max speed of 500. It retains the split speed shutter speed dials.

The build quality of the Canon rangefinders was fantastic. They use the Leica screw mount (L39) standard. If the Leica M3 and the M mount has not eclipsed them, the Canon rangefinders may have eclipsed Leica. Given the choice of a Leica IIIF or Leica IIIG, I would take a Canon as a base for all the great screw mount lens.

Lens: Canon 35mm f2.0

Film: Ilford HP5+ 400
